‼️Community Notice for Thursday, August 6 ‼️

On Thursday, August 6, 2026, Elms College will host a planned Training Exercise in collaboration with the Chicopee Police Department.

Elms College's campus will remain OPEN for regular business hours and classes.

Members of the community and the surrounding area can expect to see an increased police presence on and around campus and may hear loud noises as part of this planned drill.

The training will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will continue throughout the day. During this time, Elms College's campus will be closed to all visitors.

This is a planned training event conducted by the Chicopee Police Department in partnership with the Elms College Public Safety team.

The Western Massachusetts Literacy Collaborative (WMLC) recently held its annual Summer Learn & Earn celebration at Elms College, recognizing the incredible work of the Literacy Intervention Teachers (LIT's) who are all local college students. After receiving professional development in literacy instruction, these future educators spent the summer serving as LITs in local schools, helping young readers build confidence and strengthen their literacy skills.

Now in its fourth year, the WMLC has made a lasting impact on hundreds of students throughout the local area. Congratulations to everyone who made this summer a success!

Every summer, the Western Massachusetts Literacy Collaborative's Summer Learn & Earn Literacy Corps brings together future educators to make a meaningful impact in local schools. 📚

This year's 45 Literacy Intervention Teachers (LITs) are working both one-on-one and in small groups with students in Springfield, East Longmeadow, and Westfield, strengthening reading skills and gaining valuable classroom experience.

We're proud to partner with fellow institutions to prepare the next generation of educators as they help foster literacy, confidence, and a love of learning throughout our communities. 💚
