Hand-threading tripping you up? 🧵

Try these three tips👇🏻

1. Applying enough pressure ensures you wrap the hairs at the base and remove from the root. This creates an even uniform pull and helps avoid breaking the hairs. But, too much pressure can cause you to grab the skin, make sure you’re client is holding taut to avoid that.

2. Hair weaving can help make sure the hairs you’re trying to remove are within the “v”s of your thread or what I call the hair removal zones. Using the thread to brush or weave through the hairs can help get them in the right position for the best removal.

3. Use your thread to double check your line work, symmetry, and overall shape! Leaving the brows are symmetrical as possible✨

Try these tips and let me know if they helped! If you’d like more guidance or help learning threading make sure to check out Browducation on Skool 🧵✨

We know the pain of accidentally over trimming your brow hairs. Sadly, when that happens it’s time to let them grow, grab a brow pencil to fill in the meantime, and if you’re really desperate purchase a brow growth serum😅

But let’s also cover how to do this so you don’t do it again. First, less is more and a spoolie is your best friend.

No brushing the hairs up and holding them there. That’s how the holes are created🙅🏻‍♀️

Brush them up in an exaggerated way and only cut the hairs that remain up and out of the shape.

Do it a couple times, while brushing them how you normally style them in between each time.

Less is more! ✂️ was this helpful? Let me know if you try it!

My Brow Lamination Nonnegotiables 👀

Trimming the hairs post lamination is something that’s always debated in the brow industry. I land firmly in the middle lol I think some hairs require trimming and sometimes clients don’t need it. However I always believe in cherry picking what hairs I do plan to trim. Only trimming what’s messing with the overall shape🙅🏻‍♀️

Threading and lamination go hand in hand in my studio. My goal is to cause minimal irritation when using a chemical system on my clients and threading allows me to protect my clients skin a step further. No exfoliation post lamination goes for me too!

Minimal tweezing is less a requirement and more to just avoid irritation and help with client comfort. This translates to all my services, if I can thread it I’ll do that rather than tweeze any day.

Absolute nonnegotiable for lamination is a nourishing/hydrating/strengthing treatment after step 2 or after tinting before step 3. This helps to keep the hairs happy and healthy. I’ve been offering brow lamination for years and this step helped my results more than anything else 💕

My reason is that I want to be able to serve my client no matter where they’re at— in life or what they recently did with their skin.

I know I can thread without issue and without unnecessary or unavoidable irritation. I can still deliver the brow results their seeking without concern.

It’s not only beneficial for me from a business standpoint but also so my client doesn’t have to remember not to use their retinol (especially for those of us who really don’t want to switch up their skincare routine for their brow appts).

I love the flexibility but I also love that only a very few leave my student with red, irritated skin. Threading is gentle on the skin and costs next to nothing to perform.

Have you ever heard of a root break? BROW DOWN STUDIO PRO owner, René de la Garza, Esthetician coined this term and technique. It’s an over correction to the hairs to help break the stubbornness of our natural hair growth pattern.

Helping to remove the hook that can happen at the base of the hair closest to the root. Allowing you to style the hairs in a smooth manner from root to tip!

You’ll start by overcorrecting the hairs by styling them straight up and leaving them so for around 30 to 90 seconds depending on the hair texture, coarseness, or thickness. Some hair types are more pliable and don’t require a root break. It also depends on how you’re styling the hairs.

Once the root is more pliable you’re able to style like usual and continue with the steps of your lamination. I do this style during step 1 while we work to break down the disulfide bonds.

Try a root break next time your clients hairs are being stubborn 😉

Threading is an incredible skill to have as a brow artist. But one part about it that can be helpful for both new and seasoned pros is the ability to check your work as you thread.

I’m able to use my thread while I shape the brows to make sure the shapes are remaining even and symmetrical. Doing so without the need for extra steps or products.

It allows me to shape effectively and efficiently without the treatment taking longer to do. I can maintain a quick service but still deliver on impeccable results🩷

5 things worth your money 💵

1. Books! I’ve always got one on me and if I don’t I have my kindle. Reading is something that helps us learn, grown, feel, and maybe even at times escape into a wonderful world. Plz read more📚

2. Education! I’ve never bought a course, training, or mentorship I walked away learning nothing. Every bit of education will give you something. Learning is something that makes you stronger and more confident no matter the subject.

3. Self Care! Anything that’s helping you mentally and physically is worth your money. I always say you can’t pour from an empty cup and it’s true. If you’re trying to avoid burnout and be the best version of yourself, you need to take care of YOU. However you see fit💕

4. Experiences! Anything that’s helping you lock in a core memory is worth it. Something you’ll cherish and appreciate for years to come. It doesn’t have to be lavish to work, it could simply be a lunch with a friend or a trip to a museum or concert.

5. Dogs! (Or pets) I love my pups dearly, they help me in a million ways even if it’s just laying on my lap on a hard day. They’re my favorite part of coming home and I wouldn’t trade a second of time I get to spend with them.

Ok, those are my 5, what are yours?👀

Are you holding your clients skin taut as you tweeze?🙃

Tweezing is most clients least favorite part of the brow shaping process. Holding the skin evenly tight helps to reduce that discomfort.

It helps the hair removal process, reducing breakage, and creating an even pull of the hair at the root.

Next time you tweeze try this holding position with your pinky laid across the skin— let me know if it helps💕
