Jerome Ellis is an animal, stutterer, and artist. He was raised by Jamaican and Grenadian immigrants in Tidewater, VA, where he prays, gardens, and resides among the egrets and asters. Through music, literature, performance, and video he researches relationships among blackness, disabled speech, divinity, nature, sound, and time. Our incredibly talented BFA Students Zoey Farr, Natalie Jenkins, Gracie Gomes, and Joel Solis collaborated with the Art History Collective to bring a stunning collection of paintings together for the public to view free of charge. Based out of Brooklyn NY, Massey just completed her 3 month Artist-in-Residence and Exhibition in NYC. We are proud to have her back on campus to share her experiences with us! This event is open and free to the public so set a reminder!

Happy Summer to you all.
The department will have a few changes next semester. New faculty, a few retired, and a couple of new staff members in the halls.
1- We are excited to welcome Steven Durow in Glass, Sangmin Lee in Art Ed, and Erica Rix as the new ASA in the office.
2- Mike Murphy is officially retired and a new ceramics technician will replace him in the fall.
3-Becca in the Ira Latour has taken a Librarian job in Wyoming and will be replaced in the fall.
It’s a season of change in the department.

The art department is hosting Chico Schoolhouse Art for just 2 weeks this June.
The 4 day long program will focus on printmaking skills.
Students will:
-Learn how a little history of printmaking and color theory
-have a visit to the Janet Turner Museum
-make and carve designs for a puzzle and tote bag
-learn how they can use found objects to make relief prints at home
-and get a sketch book for them to draw in throughout the summer.
Hours 8:45-11:45
Monday - Thursday
Only 12 students in each course.

Our Chico State Interior-Architecture students had a big week. Members of the American Institute of Architects Central Valley visited our students to review senior projects, the work from the rebuild paradise internship program and presentations by the architecture firms WRNS Studio who designed the Arts building and the Smith Group who designed new science building followed by a tour of the science building by the dean of physical sciences.

Our Ceramic students are on the move today. They are attending the California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramics (lovingly known as CCACA) 2022 in Davis, CA. The conference brings together a plethora of ceramic sculpture, lectures, demonstrations, and more. In an intimate setting, you can interact with top artists in a way not possible at other venues.
