I love hearing testimonials from Grandparents on how they see how much their grandchildren are loved, valued, and how much they have grown in our preschool! Thank you for all the love and support! It takes a village to raise well rounded loving humans ♡

I always suggest that the first 10 minutes of getting home, just sit on the floor and be present for your child, follow their lead, don't bombard with questions about the day, but follow their lead and be 100% present.

After-school restraint collapse can feel like a switch flips the moment your child gets home. One minute they’re “fine”… and the next it’s tears, shouting, snapping, or total shutdown.

This isn’t bad behaviour. It’s a nervous system crash after a day of holding it together — bright lights, noise, social demands, masking, rules, transitions… all managed on the outside, while their body is running on stress on the inside.

Home is their safe base. So the release happens with you — not because you’re doing it wrong, but because you’re where they feel safe enough to unravel.

If this is your daily 3:30pm reality, I made a full After-School Restraint Collapse Toolkit with practical scripts, regulation tools, and support strategies that actually help.

Why the table shouldn't be the "Main Event in a preschool classroom!

Most preschool classrooms are designed around tables within the stations. I use tables for meals and snacks, arts and crafts, but often, we expect them to be the center of learning.

But if you look at how a young child’s body actually develops and how their play unfolds, relying on tables as the main workspace can actually get in the way.

Here is why I prioritize open floor space over table time:

1. Bodies need to move to learn. Sitting still in a chair requires a huge amount of core strength and energy for a young child. When we force them to sit for too long, their brain power goes toward "staying in the chair" rather than learning. The floor allows them to shift, stretch, and stabilize naturally.

2. Big ideas need big space. You can’t build a castle on a placemat. You can’t map out a giant train track only on a rectangle table. Open floor space invites collaboration—it brings children together to build, create art, and engage in dramatic play without physical barriers.

3. It changes the mindset.

I keep the tables for meals, messy glue projects, small pieces projects, and individual hands on learning,
and let’s give the learning back to the floor.
