’Cats open April with key conference matchup vs. UC San Diego CHICO – Sixteen games. That's what April has in store for the Chico State softball team, and to say each game is important is certainly an understatement – every contest will have a direct bearing on whether the Wildcats continue to play in May or call it a season at the end of the month. Head Coach Angel Shamblin's squad continues its most challenging stretch of the 2015 scheduled this weekend, hosting the always-tough Tritons of UC San Diego for a big four-game weekend series. Doubleheaders are slated for Friday at 1 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m.

The junior transfer from Butte College has scored solidly in the high jump in each of her three 2015 meets, bettering her height each time. Schnelli continued her steady climb last Saturday, topping her week-old personal best, scoring an NCAA Provisional qualifying mark and moving higher up the Chico State all-time high jump Top 10 list at the American River Invitational in Sacramento. Her latest vertical effort makes Schnelli the latest Wildcat of the Week.
