CIM Internship Spotlight: Colton at Euclid Chemical
🔍 What connects plant operations, customer needs, and technical concrete products? Colton is exploring all three.
To close out our CIM Internship Spotlight series, meet Colton, who is spending the summer interning with Euclid Chemical.
Colton saw the internship as an opportunity to build on what he has already learned in CIM while working alongside program patrons and graduates. He’s especially interested in customer operations and plant management—and in seeing how different businesses manage their facilities and use Euclid’s products in real-world applications. Because Euclid works with a wide range of customers, Colton is gaining a broader view of the industry. He’s learning how customer needs can vary from one company to another and how products such as admixtures, fibers, and other construction materials support different applications.
He’s also seeing one of the biggest differences between classroom learning and field experience: the pace. In the field, problems develop quickly, and professionals must communicate clearly, adapt, and make decisions in real time. That experience is helping Colton strengthen his communication, decision-making, and adaptability while building professional connections throughout the concrete and construction industries. These are skills he hopes to carry into future management roles.
His internship brings together the hands-on and technical sides of the industry, giving him a more complete understanding of how products, operations, customers, and people connect.
Four students. Four companies. Four different ways to build experience beyond the classroom.
Thank you for following our CIM Internship Spotlight series!

CIM Internship Spotlight: Alexis at Vulcan Materials
💥 This internship starts in the quarry—and reaches across the construction process.
CIM student Alexis is spending the summer as an Aggregate Operations Intern with Vulcan Materials, where she’s gaining firsthand exposure to quarry operations, blasting, and the many steps that connect raw materials to finished construction projects.
She chose Vulcan because of the company’s vertical integration. For Alexis, that creates an opportunity to see how different parts of the business work together from start to finish—and how decisions in one area can shape the rest of a project.
One of the experiences she’s most excited about is seeing the rock-blasting process and learning how those materials are used throughout construction. It’s an area she hasn’t explored as deeply in the classroom, making the internship a valuable chance to expand her understanding of aggregates and daily quarry operations.
Alexis is also focused on strengthening her communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and leadership skills. By observing daily operations, team coordination, and real-world decision-making, she’s building experience that can help prepare her for a future management position.
Her internship is giving her more than technical knowledge. It’s helping her understand how projects, people, and resources are managed across a large, integrated company.

CIM Internship Spotlight: Gabriel at Folsom Ready Mix
🧪 How does concrete go from a mix to a finished placement? Gabriel is spending his summer finding out.
CIM student Gabriel is gaining hands-on experience as a Quality Control Technician Intern with Folsom Ready Mix. His goal is to learn as much as possible about concrete—and that means seeing the full process up close. He’s exploring how concrete is made, tested, and placed while learning how different employees and teams contribute along the way.
For Gabriel, field experience is where classroom learning starts to click. He describes it as the “final puzzle piece”—the moment when students put what they’ve learned to the test and begin working through real-world challenges.
This internship is also helping him build two skills he sees as essential for his future: communication and confidence. He’s learning how to work with people in different roles, approach new situations, and trust his own knowledge as he gains more experience.
His summer experience is giving him a stronger understanding of quality control, fieldwork, teamwork, and the responsibilities that come with future management roles.
Keep following our CIM Internship Spotlight series to meet more students putting their education to work.
