From an early age, Jesse Gard was designing spaces. He didn’t realize it at the time, but the sketches filling his childhood notebooks were early glimpses of a future career. Jesse is finishing his 3rd year as an Interior Architecture BFA student. During his time here at Chico State, Jesse has worked for Professor Rouben Mohuiddin at his design firm, Design SI. “Jesse is a dedicated, caring, and reliable individual. I first met him as a student and later brought him into a professional role through an internship, where he became a key contributor to projects and community outreach, gaining a strong understanding of design’s impact,” said Mohiuddin. He has also worked with Professor Kijeong Jeon on a sensory room design for children with autism at the Far Northern Regional Center in Redding. “That project was really meaningful” he said. “It showed me how design can directly impact people’s lives. Camryn Kennedy is a Junior in our Languages and Cultures Department. We were able to sit down with Camryn for a quick interview! Besides majoring in Spanish, Camryn is pursuing the English Department’s TESOL certificate, partaking in a study abroad program in Madrid this summer, and is the vice president of Expressions, the competitive dance team here at Chico State. 🎉

Next month, Michelle Baltazar will be graduating! As an art studio major, Michelle has had a second home within the creative and close-knit glass blowing community. Michelle serves as treasurer for the Glass Art Student Association. She also volunteers during weekend “Help Sessions”, mentoring beginning students as they learn fundamentals of glasswork. “She is thoughtful, reliable, and consistently challenges herself creatively” said Professor Rachel Middleman. As she prepares to graduate, Baltazar says she’s most proud of the impact she’s made in the glass blowing community on campus. You can read more about Michelle in Chico State TODAY.

A week in the life of Writer’s Voice! This week we had 2 very cool events! Today, at the Bidwell Bowl Amphitheater, J.T. Woodhouse & The Leaves of Grass preformed music from their new album, Modern Poetry. Earlier this week, Michelle Ott (HFA extraordinaire and beloved visual resource curator) read from her book, Outer Space is Closer than Antarctica.
