We are devastated to hear of the passing of our friend Sean Kelley. He spent a lot of his day in preschool discussing his love of sports, especially the San Francisco 49ers and Frank Gore. We grieve with his family. This is an immense loss for our community. Please consider donating in his name to the Dwarf Athletic Association of America.

After 36 years of community, connection and love, Innovative Preschool will be closing its doors on Friday, June 20th, 2025.

Since opening in 1989, we have had the honor of serving generations of families and partnering with Chico Unified School District to provide an inclusive, nurturing, and play based environment. Together, we've built a space where creativity thrived, friendships were nurtured, and every child was valued just as they are.

This closure comes as CUSD reclaims the use of the building to expand its state preschool programs. This reflects a shifting landscape in early childhood education across California. With the expansion of state funded preschool and mandates for Transitional Kindergarten, the role of private preschool programs like ours experienced a significant shift in the ability to function as we have for many years. We are excited for this age group to be getting better funding and hope it continues to expand more access for families to have affordable high quality childcare options. We also see more opportunities on the horizon for programs to prioritize full inclusion options for all children. This is an exciting moment for early childhood, and as stressful as the changes are, we know many of us will continue to echo the benefits and magic of programs that welcome all abilities.

We are deeply grateful to the families, educators, community members and friends who have supported us over the decades. Thank you for being part of our story.
