I am teaching Brazilian drumming and dance.

I did it! There was an audience on the other side of this camera :) My first one woman show, 45 minutes of dance theater, poetry, aerial, Samba, Afro-Brazilian and prayer.
One of the things I wanted to accomplish this year, and I'm ready for more!

Working on my audio for the Fringe show tomorrow, so so so so fun to make and know how to use the tools and use my music program classes to good use!

I was just accepted to perform at the first annual Chico Fringe Festival!!! I am so so so so so so so excited!
The festival will take place at unique venues downtown!
First time I will be doing a solo long show, incorporating all of my things, into a theatrical dance story that I will also create the music and soundscapes for using my AAU program learnings!!!

As Dwight would say, "Perfectenschlagen".

Light Temple Dance (Alaya and friends) will be performing at the Chico ART Festival this Friday at 8pm! We have a small group of local performers bringing you a BIG show!

Light Temple Dance is a curated, unique and different fire show each event with the intention of creating a moving Temple of Light for all to see and experience!

You may have seen us recently at the Ice Rink, Christmas Preview, or Thursday Night Market!

We have a different show in store, with some fun new props you don't want to miss! (hint: jumpropes on fire, and more!)

I drive by where I grew up almost every day, and I wonder what my little girl self would think of me now, if she would have been excited to know what I do now and who I am.

I think she'd be pretty proud to know that I would end up spinning hoops of fire around me on a stage in front of a crowd of hometown people.

New classes and workshops, both in person and virtual, being released now on my website and social! I will be adding things daily. Spring is here and it's time to move outside!

This workshop will take place inside the Park and will offer practical tools as well as fun excercises and healing nature connections.

I came across this picture of a fire dancer who I saw at a restaurant in Atlanta. I was with wonderful friends and volunteers at a modern Latin restaurant and she came to entertain our table. It seems like a poetic expression of the work that has gone on in our campaign over the last year. I love the image of casting light in the midst of darkness, dancing dangerously and creating beautiful patterns that transform the air around the woman as she moves. I never really knew misogyny before this campaign. I knew it existed, of course, but it had never blocked my way. I had never seen it up close, felt its viciousness or experienced the full breath of its effort to annihilate who a woman is. I hadn’t realized it’s both a conscious and an unconscious phenomenon, diminishing all of us as it throws any woman against the rocks if she dares to refuse to feed the monster. It will take me a long time to understand it all, or to find what medicine for others I might be able to create from having gone through the storm that I have been through. I do know this: the biggest goal of woman-hate in modern society is to make a woman lose faith in herself, to believe there’s something ugly about who she is, to lose her self-confidence, and most importantly, make her stop fire dancing. I hope I never do. Within every woman there is a fire dancer, and at a time like this we desperately need the light.

Writing about this for a class assignment and remembering the epic places I went to to make this happen. Directed and produced by Taylor Boone with drone footage by Brighton Aerial and hair and makeup by Kala Ketchum. Filmed in Santa Cruz on Rio Del Mar beach, at the house I was renting out on the beach and also a special forested spot near UC Santa Cruz. Long live dance
