"After I did my research and found out my entire maternal family is Cherokee I did some more digging into the "Trail". I thought, "Well her family are all deeply melanated and those in the Midwest are all mixed with Scot, Irish and German." So I figured maybe they were 'Freedman' yet when I found them on the Dawes Roll they weren't in the Freedman part of the list. That's when I found out about the Eastern Band Cherokees who refused to go. They hid up in the Blue Ridge Mountains where they used guerilla tactics to hold off the US military for months until the government acquiesced and made a treaty with them. They have a rez in N Carolina. Of course it's not the best lands. That's how the USA, Inc. rolls. Those who are there are still very melanated. Most of them did not mix with Europeans and many went off the rez to establish their own. My family had a farm that I have amazing childhood memories of. My mother made sure I went with her every summer from age 5 to 14. They grew to***co, peanuts, greens, cotton and had a cow, chickens, pigs and a horse. It was off grid with a well and outhouse. Yet the fresh eggs, butter, bacon and milk breakfasts were slamming...aaah, those fresh roasted peanuts -- and punch 🥴

..My brother Dane Calloway (my paternal aunt's spouse's surname) and Kurumeo Ahua are always on point. Unfortunately too many of those who ID as 'Pan African' degrade them. As if the melanated Aboriginal Turtle Islanders are not part of that diaspora. The first enslaved people were the Eastern Woodlands Tribes. They were brought to the Caribbean, S America ("Saltwater Trade"), Europe AND Africa. Many escaped into the Congo and West Africa when they held over before going to Spain.
