Day 4 of AEFL Week focuses on the powerful connection between adult education, workforce development, and meaningful career opportunities. Today, we’re highlighting how strong partnerships between adult education programs and employers can help learners build the skills they need, overcome barriers, and move toward family-sustaining careers.

Do we do ALL OF THAT at the Adult Learning Center? Nope!! But we partner with people who do. Some of our core partnerships include Dynamic Workforce Solutions, South Central Oklahoma Workforce Board, Oklahoma CareerTech, Canadian Valley Technology Center, USAO, DHS, Carl Albert Testing Service, HiSET, GED, Chickasha Public Schools, Purcell Public Schools, Pauls Valley Library, Essential Ed, Aztec, Office of Juvenile Affairs, Probation & Parole, COABE, Oklahoma Literacy Coalition, Oklahoma Dept. of Rehabilitation Services, Choctaw, Commanche and Kiowa Tribes, and many more!!

We make sure that our students not only complete their High School Equivalency but that they have every opportunity to enter further training and education and that they are prepared for the workforce when it's time.

Today, we are shining a spotlight on the importance of Adult Education. Everyone understands the importance of a 3rd grader advancing their reading skills or an 8th grader improving in algebra as they prepare for higher level math. But what about the student that dropped out in 6th grade because their family moved from state to state for a parent's employment? Or the high schooler who found herself pregnant at the age of 16 and needed to find a job to support her new family? The "adults" who come to us in need of their High School Equivalency Diploma have reasons that are hard for many of us to comprehend. But THIS STAFF, these people that work with and teach our students have a heart for teaching folks who often find themselves behind the eight ball. They make contributions beyond academics that many of them will never know. But our students come back and tell us the impact that we had on them, the challenges that they've been able to overcome because of that one person that was in their corner. We offer a judgment free zone to learn. Come and join us at one of our three locations: Chickasha, Purcell, Pauls Valley.

Adult Education and Family Literacy Week (AEFL Week)
September 14-18, 2026

Adult Education Facts
● 43 million U.S. adults read at or below a third-grade level.
● Every $1 invested in adult ed yields up to $60 in increased wages and social savings.
● Adult learners are diverse: parents, immigrants, returning citizens,
older workers.
● Programs include: literacy, numeracy, digital skills, ESL, GED, career pathways.
● Funding covers only a fraction of the need—many programs rely on volunteers and donations.

Chickasha ALC celebrates with a new proclamation signed by Mayor Zach Grayson and with a few of our Adult Ed partners, teachers and supporters. THESE are the folks who provide Adult Basic Education classes ... SMART, KIND, & HUMBLE!! Our students are lucky to have instructors who care about their students and are willing to go the extra mile and then some. Some jobs are "thankless". That is not the world that we live in at the ALC!!!! We are lucky to work in a place that sees daily progress and students who are SO THANKFUL for the help that we provide!!! 🤩👩🏽‍🎓👨🏼‍🎓💜
