I’m going to be in first grade two way dual language next year! My son is also going to be in a first grade dual language classroom in a different district. This wasn’t on purpose lol 😂 it just happened to be a coincidence. I’ll spend my summer prepping materials and practicing using UFLI with my son and having a little fun in the sun. ☀️

This is my 15th year teaching as a dual language teacher! 😱 Time has passed by way too fast. I’m excited to work with both my dual language team and my kindergarten teammate. It will be quite a year with both me and my son being in Kindergarten. 🤭 I’m excited to experience being on the other side of the table and know it will give me a greater perspective of how the experience is as a dual language parent. Cheers to everyone starting out the school year this year! 💚💙🌎

Today was the last day of Kindergarten!!!! 🎉 This was my 14th year teaching and 6th time teaching two-way dual language. My students amazed me at how quickly they were able to pick up on the target 🎯 language and make cross curricular connections and make new friends. This program was started in my district because almost 6 years ago we invited the superintendent to a meeting where we wanted to bring up some challenges we were having and proposed a two way dual language model. It took a team of united teachers, united parents to rally around this idea 💡. It took a long time to make it finally happen with all sorts of detours (pandemic). I believe it was worth it. Today we had a Kindergarten graduation…and guess what?!?! All 3 classes regardless of what program they were in sang a bilingual song and an English song. The ceremony was in both Spanish and English. I felt like our students and families felt seen/included for the first time in this type of school event. We still have a long way to go. But, I would say we are making a desmadre in the name of bilingualism. 💚💙 if you are still pushing for a two way program in your district keep trying and keep advocating for the kids. The best things are yet to come.

Do you have students that struggle with behavior? I use a sticker chart to motivate them with the prize being spending time with the teacher. They have a goal it can be anything they need to work on behavior wise. If they meet that goal they pick a sticker and add it to their chart. If they meet their goal of getting 5 stickers for the week, they get to pick a buddy to have lunch with me on Mondays. I pick Mondays because it’s a great way to start the week. It sets the tone for the week to start off on a positive note. I used to do this precovid and have found that students look forward to spending time with the teacher. If you have some friends in your class who need some motivation I encourage you to try this. Happy Monday and have a great week profes. 💕

We hope everyone had a Happy Easter 🐣. My son Steven got his first dairy free chocolate bunny! He was eager to share right away. We had a busy day with baking in the am, church, dinner at my moms, an Easter egg hunt and Easter egg painting. The kids had so much fun. Happy Monday and off the grind we go again. 💪🏽

I’ve been kind of quite here lately. When it rains it pours. Today heaven gained another angel. My Grandpa or Abuelo Chuy passed away this afternoon peacefully surrounded by my family in Mexico 🇲🇽. He lived 89 years and was one of the most happiest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He had 16 children and I have about 70 first cousins as a result. Family gatherings are fun and vibrant due to the people that my Abuelo and Susana raised. I am thankful for the family I was born into, but I will miss him greatly. I was used to spending summers on my grandparents farm. The next time I go to visit the house will feel different. I feel peaceful knowing he will finally be able to rest and join my Abuela Susana in heaven. 🎺💐🕊✝️
