New study highlights link between eviction rates and gun violence 01/15/2026

A new study led by Pritzker M3 Thomas Statchen and senior author Elizabeth Tung, MD, MS and published in JAMA Network Open identifying a link between eviction rates and gun violence was featured on WBEZ Chicago's Morning Edition today and detailed here by the Biological Sciences Division at the University of Chicago. Congratulations to all involved on this important scholarly achievement!

Attention college students: Applications are now open and due by Jan. 30 for PSOMER-CS, Pritzker’s eight-week summer research, education, and mentoring experience at the University of Chicago for Chicago-area college students. Previous participants have gone on to attend medical schools including Baylor, Emory, Indiana University, Loyola University, Meharry Medical College, University of Chicago, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Miami, University of Pennsylvania, and more. The Pritzker School of Medicine and the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation this week announced a commitment of $1.95 million from the Macy Foundation to establish two funds to support Pritzker students in honor of Holly J. This past weekend, our students, faculty, and Simulation staff supported two community events at University of Chicago by teaching community members life saving survival skills. On Saturday, volunteers supported the South Side Science Festival, which engaged thousands in hands-on science demonstrations on campus, followed by Sunday’s RBC Race for the Kids at Comer Children’s, which also feature featured many of our students, faculty, and their families as runners.
