Join us this Saturday for our monthly series at Elastic Arts with Miminari Trio (Kioto Aoki, Haruhi Kobayashi and Mai Sugimoto), following their Japan tour early this year.
Their backgrounds in traditional folk, jazz, and electronic sounds coalesce into a unique dialogue grounded in experimental improvisation.

Our last performances of the year are our annual Taiko Legacy and Reduction presentations on December 19 and 20th!

This year, Reduction 11 is co-presented by the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, as a program for Yoko Ono's exhibition. We present the music of Yoko Ono from Tatsu Aoki's 2016 SKYLANDING commission album from 2016 that accompanied Ono's sculpture unveiling in Jackson Park.

Day 3 (Sunday) of the Chicago Asian American Jazz Festival is an evening of newer voices with three sets. Opening is artist Takashi Shallow followed by Chien-An Yuan, who brings together artists from Ann Arbor and Chicago. Kioto Aoki x Haruhi Kobayashi x Mai Sugimoto close out the night with an album release set for their new trio album "miminari," out from Asian Improv Records.

Day 2 of Chicago Asian American Jazz Festival starts with a panel discussion at our AIRMW hub, sharing the history of the festival over the last three decades. The evening shows feature sets by Yoko Noge, and Ester Hana

AIRMW celebrates the 30th Anniversary of our Chicago Asian American Jazz Festival with the main programming from November 7 - 10! The main program of our fall celebrations feature guests and collaborators from the Bay Area, Midwest region and Chicago.
