Happy autumn! Fortunately/unfortunately, due to a combination of travel and some issues with our climate control, we will be closed for the next week (possibility some slots might open up next Tuesday/Wednesday depending on HVAC fix). See you in October!

Announcing my next workshop at the Old Town School of Folk Music ‘Body Mechanics for Musicians’, Saturday November 7th 10am-12pm

How should you stand when you sing or play?

How should you sit?

How can you sling an instrument over your shoulder comfortably?

How can you practice without it becoming a pain in the neck (or elbow, or shoulder)?

In this two hour workshop, we will take you through strategies from the Alexander Technique that can help you to play with less tension, relax into your sound, and reduce biomechanical problems that might be getting in the way of making music-making fun. Join certified instructor Jeremy Cohn of Quietude Embodiment, bring your instrument and a verse of music to play with, and let’s chase those body-mechanics blues away!

Open to all instruments and experience levels.

‘I always wish I was better at talking about the experience of Alexander Technique. The only way I can accurately convey it is through simile: it’s like when you are in a forest or the side of a mountain and you see the sun go down behind the trees. It is like when you are by a campfire and all you can hear is the crackle of the fire and the chirp of crickets. It’s like when the orchestra burst forth into full transcendence and you forget about time for a moment. For an hour, you are fully there.’

We’ve all heard the same public speaking advice: ‘Use confident body language! Project! Make eye contact!’

We don’t learn through advice, we learn through experience. Want some help with public speaking that Chat GPT can’t give you? Check out my 8-week Revival Improv Theatre class that starts Monday Sept. 14th from 6-8 pm at the Fine Arts Building Chicago. I will actually teach you how to put practical solutions into PRACTICE- we will work on body language, voice, how to listen and respond to your audience, and how to bring out your sense of humor and unique personality when you speak in front of others. Check it out! It’ll be a blast.

New welcome video for my Alexander Technique Studio just dropped.

This type of bodywork is unfamiliar to most folks, but when you experience it, there is nothing that feels so relaxing.

Rather than focusing on , can you instead coordinate the parts of your spine so that when one moves, the other follows? How does this change your feeling of centrality and how you move through the world?

Oh, shoulders. So full of ‘shoulds’. What if you didn’t have to control as much or hold so rigidly but instead could let ‘em drift?
