Panel Discussion – Digital Citizenship: Do Better

Join the Center for Educational Technology (CET) on Thursday, October 24th from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm for an all-new panel discussion on digital citizenship. Over half of adolescents and teens have been bullied online, and about the same number have engaged in cyberbullying (i-SAFE Foundation). More than half of Americans – 53 percent – say they were subjected to hateful speech and harassment in 2018 (Anti-Defamation League). Some 46% of adult social media users say they feel “worn out” by the number of political posts and discussions they see on social media (Pew Research). Are we doing enough as parents and educators to teach digital citizenship to our kids and students? As students are we doing enough to critically evaluate how we contribute and engage with others online? As technology advances, what will happen with digital citizenship? Join the CET as we discuss a range of topics including cyberbullying, online etiquette, digital footprint, harmful content, and more.

Our team of experts discuss the issues surrounding digital citizenship and take your questions LIVE.

JOIN THE CET THIS OCTOBER FOR A FREE MOVIE SCREENING

On Wednesday, October 2nd at 4pm, the CET will screen Without a Net: The Digital Divide in America. The 1-hr documentary explores how technology can provide opportunities for learning and can help level the playing field. Further still, if such greater parity in education can be achieved, what are the critical factors in determining that success? The film focuses on digital inequities in public school classrooms, examining the challenges of providing connectivity, technology, and computer learning in public schools (Grades 6-12), as well as the transformative potential of fully equipping all students for the digital world. Millions of kids are being denied technology and a future. By 2020, 77% of all U.S. jobs will require computer skills. 11.6 million students lack the minimum bandwidth for digital learning. But there’s something you can do about it. The screen is FREE. There will be FREE snacks and all DePaul Student and faculty/staff are welcome to attend.

Wednesday, October 2nd
The film starts at 4 p.m.
