The Quintana Last Mile Scholarship is designed to support students who are currently or formerly incarcerated, and lack funds (up to $10,000) to complete a course of study. Preference will be given to those who are within 2 semesters, or in their last year of coursework. This scholarship could also be used to clear past school/loan debt that is keeping someone from completing a degree or certificate program.

Many community groups fought hard to get a consent decree mandating that the Chicago Police Department reform. I am on the monitoring team and want to talk to people with direct contact (good/bad/otherwise) with the Chicago Police Department during this time. Its easy to vilify people that are incarcerated but we must understand that their health is our health, and that their health is our responsibility. For all who live and work in the prisons, jails and detention centers, as well as members of the workers’ families and communities, are breeding grounds for infection. Thinning the population of detained peoples safely promotes the safety and wellness for all who live and work in prisons.
