Due to an extended period of dangerous heat, an Excessive Heat Watch has been issued for Wednesday, Aug. 23 through Thursday, Aug. 24. Chicago Public Library locations are open for cooling during normal business hours for residents to escape the dangerous heat.

It's a long clip, but we do encourage you to watch this piece on solitary confinement (and the many alternative phrases used to describe it) in our criminal justice system. The practice has been accurately described as "torture", and has lasting effects on those who are subjected to it, even after release.
Our program will continue to fight for more appropriate rehabilitation practices in Illinois prisons, and provide whatever support we can for those who are returning home.
