"According to a recent study, prosecutors' mandated minimum charges resulted in Black people spending more time in prison than white people for the identical offences. In fact, when all else is equal, prosecutors pursue required minimums against Black defendants 65 percent more often. - Brennan Center for Justice"
The justice system cannot claim to be blind when the data shows a glaring racial bias. Mandated minimums disproportionately target and devastate Black communities, proving that systemic racism is baked into the very policies meant to uphold the law. Advocacy and mental health are deeply connected because mass incarceration causes profound generational trauma. We must demand a system that truly serves justice for all. ✊🏿🏛️
