Regular drum classes, with Andrew Elbert, are from 6:00-8:45pm, every Sunday, at his music rehearsal space (the Stude), at 1648 W. Beginner class is from 6-7:15 and Intermediate/Advanced class is from 7:30-8:45. Classes are $10 each or $15 for both; special $5 for 1st class, or if you bring a new student. Andrew teaches contemporary djembe music, focusing on rhythms and techniques from Guinea, Mal
i, and Ivory Coast, West Africa. Classes are drop-in, for beginning to advanced players (no drum experience necessary!), where students will learn basic repertoire and technique to play djembe and dunduns, the structure of standard djembe music, and eventually solo phrases and more complex musical concepts. Students who own djembes should bring them; dunduns are provided. Extra djembes are available for those who don’t have one. Please call Andrew @ 608-347-6499, with any questions or to enter the building. Andrew is also available for: private lessons on djembe, snare drum, and drum set; small djembe classes; and music/percussion composition, direction, and consultation. Fees are negotiable.
