University Theater at the University of Chicago

University Theater at the University of Chicago A home for student theater and performance at the University of Chicago since 1898.

University Theater has brought student-driven performance to UChicago since 1898. We produce over 35 shows a year, across five theater spaces, with an annual audience of ten thousand. From the smallest workshop reading to the largest mainstage, all of our productions are proposed, directed, designed and performed by students. We are excited to offer resources and audience to students with ambition

, regardless of their major or minor. We’re also proud to foster a direct dialogue with some of Chicago’s most talented and experienced theater professionals through our co-curricular involvement with the Committee on Theater and Performance Studies. Whether you’re interested in working backstage, onstage, or if you’re a little fuzzy on the difference between the two, we welcome you to the UT community!

Julius Caesar 🌿🏛 by William Shakespeare

We opened yesterday at Classics 110!

Two millennia ago, in late republican Rome, Brutus chooses to take part in the plot to assassinate Julius Caesar, his ally who is slowly consolidating power and public support against the senate. His fellow conspirators are wisecracking, violent young men including the petty Cassius, the clever Casca and the enraged Metellus Cimber. It’s all fun and games until the assassination plot goes through; that is when the comedy unravels and the real tragedy starts.

You still have three more chances to see this great production: Friday (05/15) & Saturday (05/16) at 7:30 PM and Saturday (05/16) at 2:00 PM.

Tickets for this show are FREE but limited. Reserve your free ticket through the LinkTree in our bio!

this is as good as it gets 📓✏️ opens TONIGHT!

this is as good as it gets is an original musical following seven seniors at an all-girls high school as they try to write the ultimate guide to high school success. Led by their enthusiastic and extremely determined class dean, the girls tackle expectations, anxiety, and growing up (whether they’re ready or not) to a score inspired by current singer-songwriters. In one whirlwind hour, this is as good as it gets asks us to rethink what we would tell our younger selves–and whether it even matters.

Tonight is the FREE preview! Just show up at the door of Logan Center 501!

Tickets for the other performances through Saturday can be found through the Linktree in our bio.

A small theater company moves into an abandoned Chicago storefront. Led by their adventurously thirsty artistic director, they embark on an explosive new play with the hope of finally breaking it big. When the ensemble realizes their source material might not be as original as once assumed, they are thrust into an intense confrontation with residents of their new community, who not only want them out, but will try to take their story back by any means necessary.

Come see this hilarious & dramatic work for free TONIGHT in the Logan Center’s Theater West. And Friday’s performance will be followed by a talkback with the playwright, Ike Holter. We hope to see you there! 👩‍💻🎟️

Tickets for the other performances can be found through the Linktree in our bio.

This show contains discussions of police brutality, discussions of death, and depictions of violence.
