University Theater at the University of Chicago
A home for student theater and performance at the University of Chicago. University Theater has brought student-driven performance to UChicago since 1898.
We produce over 35 shows a year, across five theater spaces, with an annual audience of ten thousand. From the smallest workshop reading to the largest mainstage, all of our productions are proposed, directed, designed and performed by students. We are excited to offer resources and audience to students with ambition, regardless of their major or minor. We’re also proud to foster a direct dialogue
Operating as usual
Friends, theatergoers, countrymen. Theater[24], UChicago’s quarterly 24-hour theater festival, will take place THIS WEEKEND, starting the evening of Friday, January 10th, with performances on the evening of Saturday, January 11th. Join us as we write, direct, design, and perform a series of plays in less than a day! Whether you’re an experienced actor/writer/director/designer or you have never set foot on a stage, T[24] is perfect for students of all backgrounds and skill sets. We hope to see you there!
If you’d like to participate, please fill out the sign up form—which you can find in the Linktree in our bio—by Wednesday, January 8th at 10pm.
As we warm up to Winter Quarter, here are some dates to keep in mind the rest of this year! Auditions for each quarter happen Tuesday & Wednesday of each respective 1st Week, and all shows will be auditioning (with the exception of If/Then, which is a cross-quarter show and already auditioned in Fall)!
If you’re interested in seeing the shows, join the UT Audience Listhost to receive e-mail reminders about upcoming shows! And if you’re interested in being involved some other way than acting or viewing, feel free to fill out our Production Team Interest Form! We’re always happy to take on (and train!) more hands!
And don’t forget about Theater[24], our 24-hour theater festival in the first weekend of every quarter! The sign-up form can be found in the Linktree in our bio.
UT Committee is looking to facilitate the production of 35mm: A Musical Exhibition in this year’s Spring 5th week slot, and we’re looking for a team! We hope that this production will give members of our community who want to work on a musical this spring an opportunity to do so through a shorter, more flexible process than we UT musicals can usually provide.
We are looking for people who might be interested in the following roles (* denotes a crucial role):
Director
Vocal Director*
Music Director
Choreographer
Projections Designer*
Sound Designer*
Lighting Designer*
Costume Designer*
Scenic/Props Designer
If you would be interested in filling any of these roles on 35mm, please fill out the form in our Linktree! Filling out this form is just a statement of interest and not a commitment to or guarantee of any specific role on the production, so if you’re interested but unsure, feel free to fill it out anyway! Committee will reach out to anyone who has filled out the form by the end of break to discuss potential participation.
If you have any questions about this process or the show you can look at the form for more information or reach out to Eleni Lefakis ([email protected]) directly.
