Something Special Daycare is a loving educational environment. Our mission is to accommodate families, provide support, as much as possible. Hello!
Our priority is simple, your child. My name is Latischa Wells. My career began 20 years ago with the Chicago Public School district in Chicago, IL. I have worked for numerous early childhood programs, including youth centers, school-age programs, and child development centers. In 2005 I went on to become a licensed in-home childcare provider for the military community, creating Something Special D
aycare. Being a military spouse myself, I knew the challenges of finding reliable care, so I dedicated myself to supporting the mission. I attend annual Boys and Girls Club of America (BGCA) conferences, which are held nationwide. I am a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), NAEYC Providers Associations Group, and National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC). Additionally, I am a University of Phoenix student working toward a Bachelor’s of Science in Human Services/Family & Child Services, and completed certified school-age module training with the United States Air Force. Furthermore, I am certified in pediatrics, adult/child/infant CPR, fire safety, conflict resolution, general health & safety, BGCA basic programming, and first aid. My combined experience, education, and passion of caring for children make Something Special Daycare a unique and diverse learning environment. Our educational philosophy here at Something Special Daycare is deeply rooted in several concepts. Fundamentally, we believe children have an internal timing and pacing to their development that is unique to each child. Just as children do not walk and talk at the same age, we do not expect children to acquire skills in the same manner. Many factors affect development. Each family is different, and provides different types of stimulation and guidance. It is my goal, as children enter our program, to assess their development, taking into account all areas of education. I then design my curriculum to fit their individual needs. Based on research and experience, I believe young children (2-4 yrs. old) learn differently from their school-age (3-5 yrs. old) counterparts. Young children learn through their senses and experiences, whereas school-age children learn through hands-on exploration and actual experiences. Something Special Daycare provides an enriched, inviting environment in which children feel safe and supported. This allows them to pursue their areas of interest, while being stimulated to try new activities and explore new ideas with confidence and curiosity. I enjoy watching children grow and change, challenging them to be independent thinkers. The hugs and smiles make my job easier every day. When children leave our program to go on to the next phase of education, I have faith that we have built a strong foundation of knowledge and experiences.
