GLAS Messier Marathon 2021 GLAS will be participating in the Unistellar Messier Marathon with an eVscope! The eVscope will allow us to share images as they come live with our audience ...
The Ryerson Astronomical Society (RAS) is the University of Chicago's astronomy club. All are welcome, no experience or prior knowledge necessary.
Our club's purpose is to have all humanity observe the celestial luminaries in hushed awe with our antique 6.25" refractor, 10" reflector, and ~60" radio telescope. We meet at 8 PM on Monday in Ryerson 358, and have public observation nights (Ryerson Wednesday) on Wednesdays from 7:30-9:30 PM on the roof of Ryerson.

Even if you can’t go into any observatories right now, the internet is full of wonder!

Kate here, reporting from the GLAS Office. I could have joined this online, test-drive, of a Messier Marathon from home but I couldn't have set up this amazing array of computers. It takes me three computers to keep up with this enthusastic group (all under the age of 30). This practice run is being lead by Amanda Pagul , Katya Gozman and Adam McCulloch (GLAS Ed). We will be imaging Messier objects (you will have to google that) with a remotely operated telescope in California. It's not as fun as a traditional Messier Marathon but it's a lot warmer!
Send an email to [email protected] if you a one of the many middle school and high school students out there who is interested in learning more about astronomy and want a parent-disapproval-proof reason for staying up all night. We are here for you!!
The rest of you. . . put your favorite Messier object in the comment box and I will post the image as we grab them.
Happy Halloween everyone! Come by today to watch a space themed horror movie. Current winner is Alien, but this is a democracy so you can make your vote count in our Facebook group. Either way I hope to see you there at 8pm!
Today's RAS meeting features a talk sure to draw you in: Carina Baker lectures on gravity! Come to Eckhart 133 at 8 o'clock to hear it!
Come by Eckhart 133 for today's Ryerson meeting!
Be sure to stop by Eckhart 133 today at 8 o'clock to hear Michael Cervia give an out-of-this-world talk, possibly on his down-to-the-second plan of how to escape from the ISS using only his wits, a slide rule, and a BIC Crystal Stick 1.0 mm Medium Point Clear Barrel ballpoint pen.
