What does the impact of Code Platoon look like ten years later?

It looks like alumni like Daniel Reither.

Daniel went from serving as a Marine Corps officer to becoming a software engineer at CACI. But his Code Platoon story didn’t end when he landed his first job in tech.

He has continued to give back—mentoring, supporting, and helping create opportunities for the Veterans and military spouses following behind him.
As Daniel puts it, it’s about “sending the ladder back down.”

Thank you, Sofija!

This summer, Sofija brought thoughtful, high-impact work to the Career Services team as our AI Fellow, building automation systems that made finding and tracking job opportunities faster and more efficient. Here's what she had to say about her time at Code Platoon:

➡️ How would you describe your experience working at Code Platoon?
"My experience at Code Platoon was both a learning and collaborative experience. From the beginning, I noticed how different it was to work at a nonprofit, where the mission is at the center of everything. I saw how the team truly supports and celebrates each other’s wins."

➡️ What projects did you work on during your internship, and which one are you most proud of?
"I worked on two automation systems for the Career Services team. The first helped Code Platoon find relevant job opportunities more efficiently, while the second expanded that process across 30+ employer career sites and applicant tracking systems. I’m especially proud of the first because it challenged me the most and taught me so much. Kathryn’s feedback and guidance played a huge role in my growth."

➡️ What was it like working with the team at Code Platoon?
"I felt supported from every direction. Although I primarily worked with one team, I had the opportunity to learn from and connect with people across the organization. I especially enjoyed getting to know my fellow interns and the rest of the team."

➡️ What's one thing you'll take away from this internship?
"One of my biggest takeaways is that professionalism and compassion can go hand in hand. You can hold yourself to a high professional standard while still leading with empathy, collaboration, and a genuine commitment to helping others."

➡️ Is there anything else you’d like to share about your experience?
"I’m deeply grateful for this experience. Everyone I worked with treated me with genuine respect and made me feel supported throughout the internship. I’m leaving Code Platoon with new skills, meaningful relationships, and a much greater appreciation for the work that nonprofits do."

Thank you for everything, Sofija. We're proud of the work you put in this summer!

That's a wrap, Arish! 🎉

Arish Singhvi spent his summer with us as an AI Fellow, building tools that made a real, measurable impact across the Code Platoon team, from automating workflows to developing custom AI assistants.

As his fellowship comes to a close, we asked Arish to reflect on his time at Code Platoon. Here's what he had to say:

➡️ How would you describe your experience working at Code Platoon? "It's been great. Everyone was really rooting for me from the beginning and did whatever they could to make sure I had the best experience possible."

➡️ What projects did you work on during your fellowship, and which one are you most proud of? "I worked on drafting an AI policy for Code Platoon, building an email assistant, automating workflows that previously relied on third-party tools, building an AI Trello assistant, a career services contact-sourcing AI tool, and a HubSpot AI assistant. I'm not sure I have one I'm most proud of, but I'd say the most valuable part was the experience I gained building AI workflows throughout the fellowship."

➡️ What was it like working with the team at Code Platoon? "It was phenomenal. I worked with a lot of people across different teams, and they were always super cooperative and helpful."

➡️ What's one thing you'll take away from this fellowship that you'll carry into your next opportunity? "The way the team works together as a cohesive unit. There are a lot of different teams — marketing, development, career services, recruiting, and more — but everyone stays in constant communication to get things done in the most effective way possible, even with almost everyone working remotely. They also seem to genuinely enjoy working with each other."

➡️ Is there anything else you'd like to share about your experience? "I really appreciate the effort everyone on the team put in to make this experience as great as it was for me."

Thank you for everything, Arish! We're proud of the work you put in this summer and wish you the best in what's next.

That's a wrap, Grayson! 🎉

Grayson Groves spent his summer with us as a Marketing & Insights Intern, diving into competitive research, supporting day-to-day marketing projects, and learning new tools along the way.

As his internship comes to a close, we asked Grayson to reflect on his time at Code Platoon. Here's what he had to say:

➡️ What was it like working with the team at Code Platoon?
"Positive! Excellent on the communication side. It seemed like everyone really enjoys their work and working with others."

➡️ What was the main project you worked on, and which are you most proud of?
"The main project I worked on was my competitor funnel audit, where I compared Code Platoon to other organizations in the field to see where we're strongest and where we have opportunities to improve. It's the project I'm most proud of, though helping the team with day-to-day tasks was great too. I got exposed to a lot of useful platforms like HubSpot, Canva, and Trello."

➡️ What's one thing you'll take away from this internship that you'll carry into your next opportunity?
"I think the technical experience I gained across many areas, from developing my project to learning new work platforms, will be helpful in any opportunity I pursue moving forward."

➡️ Is there anything else you'd like to share about your experience?
"I would definitely recommend this internship opportunity to anyone interested in marketing. It's been a great way to learn more about the field and gain hands-on experience."

Thank you for everything, Grayson! We're proud of the work you put in this summer and wish you the best in what's next.

Ten years of Code Platoon wouldn’t have been possible without the volunteers and partners who have invested their time, expertise, and energy in our mission.

Few partners embody that commitment more than Accenture, our Volunteer Partner of the Decade.

Over the years, Accenture volunteers have shown up for our students and our mission in meaningful ways—sharing their expertise, mentoring members of our community, and helping Code Platoon grow its impact.

Getting the technical skills is only part of launching a career in tech. You also need to know how to tell the story of what you bring to the table.

At Code Platoon, our Career Services team works with students and alumni to translate their military experience, new technical skills, and unique strengths into a story employers understand—from resumes and LinkedIn profiles to interviews and the job search itself.

And that support doesn’t end at graduation. We’re here to help our alumni build careers in tech—and keep growing once they get there.

Our latest blog takes you behind the scenes of Career Services at Code Platoon and the role the team plays in helping our graduates make the transition from military service to tech.

Ten years ago, Code Platoon started with a bet: that Veterans and military spouses had the skills, drive, and potential to build meaningful careers in tech—and that the right training and community could help unlock that potential.

Founding board member Jill Greer was there from the beginning.

In our latest Ten Years. One Mission. story, Jill reflects on the early decisions that shaped Code Platoon, the principles that have endured, and why the organization still works the way it was built.

Ten Years. One Mission. Ten years of stories about what comes next.
For Code Platoon alum Julian West, that story stretches from working with mainframes during his military service to building a new career as a software engineer.

As we celebrate Code Platoon’s tenth anniversary, we’re catching up with alumni like Julian whose journeys reflect what our mission has always been about: helping Veterans and military spouses build the skills, confidence, and community to create their next chapter.

For many Veterans, the next mission starts with learning new skills. But the bigger transformation is discovering what's possible.

As part of our Ten Years. One Mission. celebration, we're sharing the stories of the people who have shaped Code Platoon's first decade. In our latest alumni spotlight, Stephen Thomas Miller reflects on his journey from military service to a career in software engineering—and how Code Platoon helped him engineer his next chapter.

Stephen's story is a reminder that the impact of Code Platoon isn't measured only in code written or jobs earned. It's measured in lives changed and new futures built.
