What a trip Dean Eileen Collins recently concluded to Seoul, South Korea! She was honored to be a speaker at the 2026 International Nursing Conference hosted by Yonsei University Global's College of Nursing. Then she got to host a reception in honor of UIC Nursing Dean Emerita Mi Ja Kim, welcoming our many alumni in Seoul.

Fun P.S. The dean of Yonsei University College of Nursing, which is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year, is alumna Hyeon Kyeong Lee, PhD '06. Dr. Lee succeeded Eui Geum Oh, PhD '99, who won the UIC Alumni Association's Alumni Achievement Award in 2024. UIC really does have such deep and warm ties with the nursing community in South Korea!

On Thursday, incoming first-year nursing student Simran Sapovadia from Janesville, Wisconsin, had her mother's help moving into her residence hall at UIC. Her mom, Jagu Sapovadia, graduated from our BSN program in 1997.

“I’m following in her footsteps,” said Simran. “She was like, ‘Check out UIC.’ We checked it out and toured it, and I absolutely loved it.”

Kudos to professor Krista Jones, DNP '11, MSN '07, RN, PHNA-BC, FNAP, FAAN, who was selected as a fellow of the National League for Nursing Academy of Nursing Education. Fellows are selected for their visionary leadership in nursing education through a rigorous review process.
As director of UIC Nursing's Urbana campus, Jones estimates that she's crossed paths with more than 1,600 students. She's also an accomplished scholar, with grants totaling more than $7 million to improve population health.
