Tired of unmotivated students? Frustrated with behavior management? I found a game-changing (literally!) solution: a classroom point system that works for middle schoolersâeven reluctant learners!
Inspired by Daniel Pinkâs Drive, I set out to create a simple, effective gamification strategy that would boost student motivation without feeling âbabyishâ or overwhelming. But existing platforms were either:
đŤ Too complicated
đŤ Too young for middle school
đŤ Lacking point deductions
đŤ Blocked by my districtâs tech policies
So, I built my own in Google Sheetsâand the results have been unbelievable.
â
Students were instantly hookedâeven my most reluctant learners started asking for extra work to earn more points.
â
Behavior management improvedâa swearing student? No problem. Each swear cost 25 points. Guess who stopped swearing? đ
â
Math skills skyrocketedâstudents naturally practiced number sense, saving vs. spending, and comparing greater than/less than.
â
Homework struggles disappearedâI started offering points for completion, and suddenly, students wanted to do their homework.
Hereâs how it works:
â Easy, one-click tracking of points
â Leaderboard & bar graphs to track progress
â Random button for on-task recognition
â Whole-class rewards with one click
â Customizable store where students can âspendâ their points
And the best part? Itâs completely FREE to implement! All you need is Google Sheets and a little creativity. đ
Since launching this system, Iâve expanded it even furtherâIâve added seasonal themes, a money-based version to boost financial literacy, and new reward systems to keep students engaged all year long.
Want to try it in your classroom?
Iâve created a ready-to-use TPT resource so you can set up a classroom point system in minutes! Click here to check it out and transform your classroom today!
