Big 10 SAAC,
We are looking for some IMPORTANT feedback from you all!
We have been asked to do some research on the student-athlete perspective regarding player-agents NCAA rules in the sports of BASEBALL and MEN'S ICE HOCKEY. NCAA employees Steve Duffin of Men’s Ice Hockey Committee and Rachel Newman of Baseball Committee are the ones who are seeking the information. Below are the questions they are looking to get answered:
1. Are baseball and men’s ice hockey student-athletes in favor the NCAA opening the rules to allow free representation of student-athletes by professional agents?
2. If SAs, after being drafted, were now allowed to have agents negotiate with the professional sports organization (i.e. Yankees, Angels, Blackhawks, Bruins) without sacrificing their NCAA eligibility, would that be beneficial? Would the SAs be appreciative of that? Would there be a negative effect?
3. If a hockey player is drafted by team X, would they like the ability to have a representing agent negotiate with team X throughout the college career?
4. How serious is the problem of SAs being taken advantage of by advisors/agents or getting mad information from the advisors/agents currently?
Thanks everyone! Please respond to Lauren Cochlin by March 20th (sorry that is a quick turn around-- we were just notified of this). Thank you in advance for all your hard work!
