“I have been impacted not only by the struggles that I faced, but by the courage that I witnessed so many women who chose to continue their fight for survival and who were willing to show courage to never give into fears or defeat, no matter the age.”

Chef Vicki Robinson grew up on Chicago’s South Side in Morgan Park. Vicki is passionate about working with youth and has participated in numerous peer mentoring programs.

In 2021 Vicki graduated from Washburne Culinary Institute Chicago as a professional chef and started her catering business, Queen Victoria's. During the pandemic, Queen Victoria’s Catering donated food to ministry programs and seniors in Vicki’s neighborhood. She would like others to know that she believes that her gifts are to be shared to enhance people’s lives as so many have done for her.

Cultivating Success

Founded more than 80 years ago, Washburne Culinary & Hospitality Institute is one of the oldest culinary schools in the nation. Headquartered at 63rd and Halsted on the City Colleges of Chicago Kennedy-King campus, Washburne provides students with the latest culinary and baking techniques, along with essential hands-on experience to ensure they are equipped to work in Chicago’s most successful restaurants, hotels, private clubs, and other culinary establishments.

In Fall 2014, Washburne added a new program, Hospitality Management, to support the growth of the food service and hotel industry within the City of Chicago from an operational aspect. Classes focus on restaurant and hotel operations emphasizing a guest centered, yet financially responsible approach to management.

Washburne is one of City Colleges of Chicago’s College to Careers sites, where we work with industry leaders to ensure our curriculum provides students with the skills that are most important and valuable in the working world. Some of our College to Careers partners include Hyatt Hotels, Intercontinental, Aramark, Rome’s Joy Catering, and Jimmy Banos, a Washburn alum who owns the restaurants Heaven on Seven and The Purple Pig.
