The Red Line Jazz Festival, curated by Fareed Haque, is the culminating performance of Mandala’s five-month Red Line Jazz Project, blending jazz, global music, and dance from artists including Butter Chicken Brass Band, the Windy City Ramblers, and the Mandala Dance Ensemble to celebrate the communities along Chicago’s Red Line corridor.
Introducing our choreographer for the Red Line Jazz Festival: Sigma Satabdhi 💫
Sigma is an Odissi dancer, choreographer, and fusion artist trained under Guru Madhulita Mohapatra and currently mentored by Meghna Das. A recipient of the 2013 Yuva Prativa Puraskar, her classical credentials include performances at the Odissi International Dance Festival and residencies with Guru Bijayini Satpathy (Purnang, Nimagna, and Parichay). Versed in street and contemporary styles from Waacking to Chicago Footwork, she is a member of Movement of Desis (World of Dance World Summit 2024, 2026), director of the DesiXStreet collective, and choreographer of the 2026 festival-selected film Sah-Astitva. Sigma’s work centers on process-driven creation and community building.
