A small group of our weekday preschoolers and kindergartners recently visited West Ridge Nature Park, where they explored the natural environment by observing turtles, a variety of birds, deer, and fish and spending time at the nature playground. Guided by park volunteer Jim, the children also learned about native mammals including raccoons, squirrels, and coyotes, gaining a better understanding of the animals that live in their local ecosystem. For our students, outdoor experiences like this provide valuable educational benefits by encouraging curiosity, strengthening observation and listening skills, building early science knowledge, and expanding vocabulary through hands-on learning. Regular nature exploration also supports social development as our little ones ask questions, share discoveries, and cooperate with their peers. A special thank you to Jim Hanna for taking the time to share his knowledge and help make the visit such a meaningful and enjoyable learning experience for the children.
