TTIC is excited to announce Dr. Ka Yee Lee as the newest member of its Board of Trustees, beginning May 1, 2024. Dr. Lee is the David Lee Shillinglaw Distinguished Service Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Chicago, and has been serving as Interim Dean of the Physical Sciences Division at the University of Chicago since February 2024. In February, the CCC supported three groundbreaking scientific sessions at this year's prestigious AAAS Annual Conference! Throughout the week we’ve been releasing insightful summaries from the first CCC-hosted panel.
🔬 First Panel Highlight: "Generative AI in Science: Promises and Pitfalls" 🔬
Moderated by CCC’s very own Matthew Turk, President of the Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago, this panel brought together brilliant minds to explore the application of generative models in various scientific domains.

Dr. Rebecca Willett, Professor of Statistics and Computer Science at the University of Chicago, delved into the indispensable role of generative models in scientific research and emphasized why off-the-shelf models fall short in this context.
Dr. Markus Buehler, Professor of Engineering at MIT, illuminated the application of generative models in materials science, offering fascinating insights into this rapidly evolving field.
Dr. Duncan Watson-Parris, Assistant Professor at Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute at UC San Diego, shared valuable perspectives on utilizing generative models in climate science research, paving the way for innovative solutions in understanding our planet's climate dynamics.
