ConTEXT: Using text messages to support parent-child tech talk - Erikson Institute 12/06/2021

Parents of Middle Schoolers- Anyone struggling or concerned about your child's media use?

The TEC Center at Erikson Institute is studying how to best support parent and child conversation about social media, video games, and phone use. We’ve developed ConTEXT-a series of text message challenges to encourage you and your child to talk about technology use and its effects.

We are looking for 100 parents and middle schoolers to try out ConTEXT to help us learn more. As part of the study you and your middle schooler will receive 2 text message challenges each week for free (data rates may apply) and will be asked to complete 3 anonymous surveys at different points to tell us about your experience. You will be compensated for each completed survey up to $50 per person.

We are now offering a new IMLS-funded professional development program, Media Literacy in Early Childhood for Youth Library Staff!

Recruitment is open for this 4-mo. professional development series, in which participants will spend ~10-12 hours total in entirely online synchronous and asynchronous learning. Cohorts will be made up of 20-25 youth library staff from across the U.S.

Audience: Public and school library staff who either work directly with young children (ages birth through 8 years old) and families, or supervise library staff who do work directly with young children and families.

Incentive: All participants will receive a certificate and a $400 honorarium for their library once they complete the program to compensate for their time.
