As we embark on a new school year, Latin Upper School students participated in grade-level retreats, an important tradition that marks the start of each new grade. The retreats give students a chance to connect with their peers, reflect on their experiences and focus on what lies ahead.

9th graders traveled to Dickson Valley Park, 10th graders focused on community engagement and service within the city, 11th graders interviewed alumni in the Junior Class Retreat, and seniors enjoyed an overnight retreat at Camp Duncan.

Learn more about these retreats via the link in our bio.

We're excited to see what our Upper School students accomplish in the year ahead!

Latin School of Chicago is now accepting applications for the 2027-28 school year.

For nearly 140 years, Latin has combined a tradition of academic excellence with an innovative, research-based approach to teaching and learning that prepares students for an ever-changing world. Welcome, Middle School students and families!

We were thrilled to have our Middle School students back on campus for their first day of classes today. The day was filled with smiles as students reconnected with old friends, made new ones and enjoyed an afternoon popsicle party. Enjoy a few photos from morning drop-off and the afternoon celebration!

We’re excited to see what the year holds for our students!

The school year has just begun, but the fall athletics season is already underway—and a new tradition helped set the tone!

Latin Athletics recently hosted the inaugural Student-Athlete Leadership Retreat, bringing together student-athletes from Latin and fellow Independent School League (ISL) schools Lake Forest Academy, North Shore Country Day, Parker, Regina, U-High, Willows and Woodlands.

Our Romans and their ISL peers worked through real-world scenarios, discussed how student leaders can foster a positive culture in athletics and collaborated on a new ISL sportsmanship statement. Learn more about the retreat at the link below.

Congratulations to rising 11th grader Kate E. on being named to the USA Fencing All-American First Team.

To be considered for the All-American First Team, fencers must demonstrate exceptional character as athletes, students and members of their communities while also earning a high rating during the fencing season.

We celebrate Kate’s incredible achievement, commitment and character!

A round of applause for rising senior Myles A. and his fashion exhibition in the Upper School’s Gallery 2. The exhibition was the culmination of his work in and outside the classroom, featuring original garments, fashion photography and video from three collections created between 2024 and 2026.

Myles’ work was admired by Latin community members of all ages, including our first graders. Ms. Tafe’s first grade class visited the Upper School for a walkthrough of the exhibition, where they heard about Myles’ love for fashion and watched a sewing demonstration from the designer himself.

Congratulations on an inspiring exhibition, Myles!

Enjoy these final projects from the Upper School Stagecraft class, which challenged students to create a light show set to music or audio of their choosing.

Working in groups of three, students created photo collages to capture the mood of their piece and designed lighting cues that demonstrated the controllable qualities of light, including distribution, intensity, movement and color, to evoke specific emotions. Students also used objects on the stage to help tell their stories, illuminating them through their programmed lighting sequences.

Our Stagecraft class uses these hands-on opportunities to introduce students to the many responsibilities of theatre production and to help them build technical skills while nurturing their creativity.
