Parents, “Bosses say Gen Zers aren’t ready for work. Whose fault is that?” by Amanda Hoover, published August 31, 2026.

Check this out.

A new Business Insider article looks at what employers are saying about Gen Z entering the workforce.

Here are the numbers that stood out:

• Only 22% of employers say recent graduates are very well prepared for the workplace.

• The biggest gaps? Professionalism, communication and critical thinking.

• About 75% say new graduates are proficient in teamwork.

• Employers say graduates are generally better prepared to use AI than they are with some of these fundamental workplace skills.

• And employers are doing less entry level training, making preparation before that first job even more important.

This isn’t simply a Gen Z problem.

It’s a preparation problem.

We are expecting young people to know how to operate in a professional world that we haven’t necessarily taught them how to navigate.

Professional Fluency is the missing skill: the ability to have the necessary conversations that move them forward in education and industry.

This is a skill expected of professionals at every level. Every student needs to learn it, and I believe it should be a high school graduation requirement.

We can and need to do better preparing them for what comes next and that’s where school2life comes in😃

See comments for the article. It’s an important conversation.

I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to be part of so many students’ and young professionals’ journeys. Watching them grow, find their confidence, and take their next steps is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

This message meant a lot to me. ❤️

Parents, send this to your student today and have them book the meeting.

Don’t wait until they need an internship or a job to figure out what their college Career Center offers.

Students don’t know what they don’t know.Have them schedule a meeting and ask:

1. I’ve looked at the Career Center website. What am I missing?

2. What career, internship, recruiting and networking events are happening this year?

3.What companies, professionals and alumni will be there? Can I get a list so I can prepare?

4.What should I bring? What should I wear? What should I know before I attend?

5.Are there speaker panels, alumni networking events or other opportunities I should be taking advantage of?

6.Can you introduce me to alumni working in areas I’m exploring for informational interviews?

And don’t leave without asking:

*7.What am I not asking that I should know?

The point isn’t the meeting. It’s finding the opportunities your student doesn’t even know exist and making sure they’re using them.

Happy Friday!

Parents, here’s an easy script your student, or anyone, can use to make a immediate fantastic first impression in networking conversations and recruiting meetings.

The game changer? Share what you learned from your experience, not just where you worked or what you studied.

That’s the detail that turns an introduction into a conversation and a conversation into an opportunity.

I think we need to prepare our students to think bigger, and consider all they’re capable of now and in their future. We need to teach how to lead a forward-thinking career, not just get a job.
