Even when differences define the room, the responsibility of a reporter stays the same: document, don’t distort. Over spring break, third-year Nathaniel Rodwell-Simon stepped into the White House press pool, camera in hand, to do exactly that.
Nathaniel was invited by New York Times photojournalist and three-time Pulitzer Prize winner Doug Mills to shadow him as he covered the White House, gaining a firsthand look at the pace and demands of the profession.
“In covering every president since the Ronald Reagan administration, he [Doug Mills] has so much knowledge about the way journalism and photojournalism have evolved over that time,” Rodwell-Simon said.
Nathaniel worked alongside seasoned photojournalists at press briefings and Oval Office meetings, learning not just how to capture the moment but how to carry the responsibility that comes with it.
