We'll cover eligibility requirements, the application process, and tips for submitting a competitive application. You'll also hear firsthand from current NASA interns as they share their experiences and advice for success. Whether you're just beginning to explore opportunities or preparing to apply, this session will provide the information and resources you need to start your NASA journey.
Please note that you must be a U.S. citizen to be eligible to participate.
Meeting links will be sent via email the day before the event (Thursday, July 30) and again on the day of the event (Friday July 31).

NOIRLab will offer a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program at its site in La Serena, Chile during the 2027 Chilean summer (January – March 2027).
In this program, students will have the opportunity to
- work closely with a NOIRLab research mentor on a forefront research topic and
- experience professional astronomy observing first hand.
Our program will also include
- basic training in Python programming for astronomy,
- a professional development program, and
- Chile-specific astronomy-related enrichment activities designed to enhance understanding of and appreciation for the local and cultural context in which astronomy operates.
Our students will not only gain experience with front-line techniques of modern astrophysics, but also develop critical thinking, data analysis, teamwork, science communication, and other professional skills applicable to a wide array of careers in STEM. Students will be based in La Serena and provided with a stipend and housing on the NOIRLab campus.
The application deadline is 9 September 2026.

"Continuum Observations of Water Maser Sites"
Stars form in cores deep within cold (10 K) clouds of hydrogen gas. As material is accreted onto the central object inside these cores (the protostar), powerful outflows that channel mass away from the protostar are also launched. The launching mechanism for these outflows is still not fully understood. This thesis presents
observations of the 22 GHz continuum emission from two star-forming regions, NGC 7129 FIRS2 and IC1396-n. The immediate aim of these observations is to find where this continuum emission is coming from and the long-term goal is to investigate what such continuum observations reveal about jets and outflows and their launching process. The data were obtained with the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) in A-configuration and were calibrated and imaged using the Astronomical Image Processing System (AIPS). A compact continuum source is detected toward each target. For NGC 7129 FIRS2, there is present an extension to the northwest that is aligned with the known bipolar molecular outflow. For
IC1396-n the primary source is accompanied by a second compact source 2.6 arcsec to the north-northwest,
consistent with the previously reported protocluster nature of the region. A spectral index was measured
across the fifteen usable sub-bands. The steeply rising spectral index and the low brightness temperatures
indicate that the continuum could be dominated by thermal dust from the surrounding envelope and disk
rather than by free-free emission from an ionized jet.
