This week, we continued our studies of land, water and air with students practicing washing laundry and dishes. They also learned more about modes of transportation in the air and sea animals. Check out our highlights.
One of the hallmarks of the Montessori method is that it takes full advantage of the child’s motivation to learn these things at young age. The practical life curriculum in Montessori provides a scope and sequence for these everyday routines and practices. And exactly like the other, more academic areas in the Montessori classroom, the Montessori approach offers a pedagogy that elevates and empowers the child in her pursuit of these skills. Practical life in Montessori is purposeful activity, develops motor control and coordination, and develops independence, concentration, and a sense of responsibility.
It is a sensorial material designed to help children develop visual and tactile discrimination of dimensions, specifically thickness and width. It consists of ten wooden prisms of varying widths, all of the same length, that are arranged to form a "staircase”

We celebrated our annual UVMS Family Day at the Chicago Botanic Gardens yesterday to close out the 2024-25 school year. Our students were surrounded by such beauty while they enjoyed a day with each other and their parents. One of the biggest highlights for the students was riding the big yellow school bus!

“Free activity makes children happy." - Maria Montessori
This week, our UVMS students were very happy as they made some yummy snacks of lemonade, kale salad and biscuits. These activities enhance organizational and fine motor skills. To top off the week, one of our young toddlers spotted a beautiful butterfly during their daily walk.
