Our Director, John Zeigler alongside Hiba Iqbal had the incredible opportunity to visit Pakistan for the Green Urban Development (GUD) project! 🎉

The US Embassy, in collaboration with the School of Leadership Foundation (SoLF) and the Institute of Urbanism (IoU), has launched this transformative initiative. The GUD project is all about sparking discussions and driving community and policy action for greener urban development.

Our goals?
Empower students from selected universities to champion green urban development and help them launch at least two green enterprises within two years. 📚🌱
Enhance coordination among public and private entities working on water conservation, green infrastructure, climate change, environmental protection, and waste management. 🤝
Together, we’re working towards a more sustainable urban future! 💚

Another way in which elders are honored is dances being held for them at Powwows. It is also believed that God speaks through elders.
Elders have so much knowledge to pass down to us. It’s time that we, as Americans, listen to what they have to say and take their experiences into consideration.

This series was created by Egan member Meredith Cline. Over the next few weeks, we will share images, proverbs, and writings inspired by The Council of Elders about elder wisdom around the world.

The Council of Elders is a group of passionate and experienced Social Justice organizers and activists who meet regularly to discuss current issues in Chicago and create actionable change-making endeavors. DePaul students are welcome to join in these meetings to learn with and from the elders who serve the council.

In Mediterranean countries such as Greece, people connect old age with wisdom and closeness to God. It is customary to address elders as “Geronda” or “Gerondissa,” and is taken as a compliment.
There are five hundred different Indigenous nations with varying traditions regarding elders with wisdom and life experiences. Younger generations will bring their elders food and find comfortable seats for them at gatherings, viewing elders as the heartbeat of the tribe. When an elder speaks, it is known that everybody will listen with respect hearing what they have to say as insightful wisdom.
