The Department of English offers two vibrant graduate programs plus exciting professional opportunities through our internship and certificate programs. The Master of Arts in English focuses on historical, critical and pedagogical approaches to British, American, transnational and colonial literatures. The Master of Arts in Writing and Publishing immerses students in the art and craft of creating

writing, literary editing and teaching. Both programs offer classes weekday evenings and on weekends, thus allowing students to earn their degrees without interrupting their busy daytime schedules. For our next visiting author, we’re excited to welcome Eric Puchner to our Lincoln Park campus! His book Dream State was recently chosen as Oprah’s Book Club’s Book of the Month and was selected as Book of the Week by People and The New York Times, among many other accolades.

The reading will be held this Thursday, April 10 at 6:00 PM in Rm. 100 of the Levan Center (2322 N Kenmore Ave). Check out the flyer for more details!

The Gerald Paetsch Academic Advising Award recognizes DePaul academic advisors who demonstrate excellence in advising undergraduate and/or graduate students. Any faculty, staff or administrator involved in the delivery of academic advising services is eligible for this award.

We’re very excited to announce that we are now accepting submissions to the English department’s very own ~Spring English Conference~! This year, the Spring Conference will be held in conjunction with the annual MFA reading and the English awards ceremony, combining three of the department’s most important events. It will also feature an alumni panel. “James Baldwin At 100” will be held at DePaul’s Theatre School (2350 North Racine Ave.) from 5:00 to 7:00 PM next Thursday, February 27. In addition to presentations by Ashli Rene Funches and keynote speaker Dr. Darrell Moore, students from DePaul’s Theatre School will perform excerpts from Baldwin’s “Sonny’s Blues: A Short Story.”

Tickets are free, though reservations are encouraged. See the flyer for full details on this special celebration of James Baldwin and his work!
