The OFFICIAL page for Northeastern Illinois University Honors Program Scholarship applications are due July 15 for fall-spring awards.

Uniquely flexible for students in all fields of study and at almost every stage of degree progress, the University Honors Program (UHP) is open to eligible undergraduates who have at least a 3.5 GPA and a minimum of three academic terms left before graduating from NEIU. UHP students enjoy:

• small classes taught by our finest faculty

💛be enrolled for at least six (6) credit hours in Fall 2024 for student aide/work-study positions or at least one (1) credit hour in Fall 2024 for graduate assistant positions;
💛be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above; and
💛have the endorsement of an NEIU faculty member who is knowledgeable of their academic skills in the relevant content area and supports the application.

💛Happy Proud to Be NEIU Day!💙 On this Proud to Be NEIU Day, the College of Arts and Sciences is launching a historic and game-changing $150,000 campaign to fund our College Undergraduate Scholars Program (CUSP) to support our students on the CUSP of success. This fund supports student scholarship, research, and creative activities, experiences that we know propel our students into meaningful careers and help earn them admission to top graduate programs. Join the Office of Student Success and Retention for this year’s Eagle Fest x One Stop Enrollment x Major Declaration from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, May 2 in Alumni Hall on the Main Campus.!

One Stop Enrollment and Major Declaration is an opportunity for students to register for the upcoming semesters if they haven’t done so already, and officially declare their major. Academic departments, advisors and staff are invited to help students with their registration and/or major declaration.

After completing registration for Summer and/or Fall 2024, students are welcome to participate in Eagle Fest, an event to celebrate their progress toward completing their degrees. Food, giveaways, activities and music will be provided.

To get an accurate count for food and supplies, students are encouraged to sign up in advance to attend.

In honor of Fred Hampton, the late activist, organizer and Chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party, Northeastern Illinois University has established the Fred Hampton Scholarship. The Fred Hampton Scholarship will award $1,000 to a student to assist with costs associated with attending Northeastern, including tuition, books and fees. One scholarship will be available to a student for the Fall 2024 semester.

Scholarship Criteria

🎓All applicants must be currently enrolled at Northeastern Illinois University and continuing their education at Northeastern during the Fall 2024 semester.
🎓Scholarships are open to both undergraduate and graduate students.
🎓The student cannot be a current Hope Chicago scholar.
🎓Applicants must have a grade point average of 2.0 or above.
🎓Scholarship preference will be given to a male student who identifies as African American.
🎓Applicants must submit a complete application (see below).

How to Apply

The deadline to apply for the Fred Hampton Scholarship is Friday, May 3, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. CST.

A complete application will include:

🦅The completed application form with all information requested.
🦅A 1,500-word essay on the impact a scholarship like this can have on your educational journey.
-Please consider utilizing University resources such as the Learning Success Center to review your essay before you submit your application.

Once the application submission period closes, the scholarship recipient will be selected and notified. The $1,000 award will be applied to the recipient’s tuition account at the start of the Fall 2024 semester.

Why join honors? We offer merit tuition scholarships (MTS) for the fall, spring and summer semesters! Our MTS are open to honors students who meet the following requirements:

💙A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5
💙Be in good academic standing in the UHP
💙Students must progress in their UHP advising plan during the term of the award and carry a minimum of six credit hours each semester
