My name is Akeela Manekia. I am a Qur’an tutor and App creator for “Quran Treasure Island” and my passion is to make kids LOVE learning how to read the Holy Qur’an. While working as a tutor, I developed a brand new method that made kids very engaged in their learning. My lessons for teaching Qur’an had evolved into a fun story with so many characters representing the Arabic letters. Without even realizing, children as young as 2 years old were picking up all their letters and rules for learning the Qur’an! So I decided to turn this fun teaching method into an app so that English speaking kids around the world can join in on the Qur’an learning adventure!

HOW IT ALL STARTED
For the past 5 years, I have worked as a Qur’an tutor in Orlando, FL. I would always try to think of ways to make Qur’an learning more interesting for my students - so I began crafting a story. I started by thinking of different characters and animals to represent the letters of the Arabic alphabet. Then I came up with some fun songs and tricks to teach the rules. Before I knew it, I had a learning adventure, and the kids approved!

My focus has since evolved into sharing this method with Muslim kids and their parents outside of my local community. I have worked for over a year to turn this learning adventure into a mobile application - Qur’an Treasure Island.

We had a great time this past weekend at our FIRST event right here in Minneapolis, MN where my husband, Ibrahim and I live.
