Alice Packard began her education at a Waldorf school in kindergarten back in the '90s and stayed all the way through high school at Chicago Waldorf School. Today she is the Senior Creative Producer on Disney Lorcana, one of the biggest trading card games in the world, after an exciting career path that ran through Vermont, North Carolina, Brad Pitt's production company, and the Chicago and Los Angeles film scene.

We talked with her about how a Waldorf education shaped a creative life that almost never went the way she planned, and why she thinks that is exactly the point.

In Waldorf education, relationships are at the heart of the learning experience. Students have time to build trust, navigate differences, collaborate, and grow together through meaningful relationships with teachers and peers.

These experiences cultivate empathy, emotional intelligence, resilience, and a strong sense of belonging.

Because education isn’t just about what you learn. It’s also about how you learn to be with others. Read through the slides to learn more about the importance of relationships through each level.

This summer, Chicago Waldorf High School welcomes our new High School Level Chair, Sonjanita Moore, bringing with her more than three decades of experience in education, a deep commitment to community-centered learning, and a passion for helping students discover their own strengths and voices.

Sonjanita approaches her work through the principles of wisdom, unity, and collective responsibility. As she begins her journey at Chicago Waldorf High School, we had a little Q&A to learn more about her path to education, what excites her most about joining the Waldorf community, and her hopes for the year ahead.

Today, July 2, Jordan Gutierrez would have turned 21.

Jordan spent nearly her entire childhood at Chicago Waldorf School, arriving at CWS at two years old and growing up within this community for fifteen years. She was an artist, an athlete, a history lover, a beloved friend, and a devoted big sister to Noah.

Five years after her passing, Jordan’s memory continues to live here in meaningful ways, especially through Jordan’s Council Ring and Fire Pit in Nora’s Sun & Moon Park. It is a place for warmth, reflection, honest conversation, and belonging, all things Jordan would have loved.

In honor of Jordan’s 21st birthday, we invite you to watch this special video message from Jordan’s mom, Erin, and to consider making a gift to the Community Fund in Jordan’s memory. Every child who gathers in that circle carries a piece of Jordan forward. With love, we remember her today.

As the only Waldorf school in Chicago, the school has spent more than 50 years helping students learn through creativity, hands-on experiences and meaningful relationships.”

At CWS, learning extends far beyond the classroom. Beginning in 1st grade, every class takes trips that bring lessons, relationships, and the outside world to life.

Our 3rd graders experienced that tradition this May on their class camping trip. Special shoutout to Mr. Giniat for the beautiful photos!
