We want to give a big big 🗣️ SHOUT OUT 🗣️ to our amazing Primary Team (Mama Veronica, Mama Jordyn, Mama Anita, Mama LaRanya, Mama Stephanie, Mama Mahal, Mama Precious, and Mama Kiara), who put together an absolutely lovely Grandparents Day at our Shabazz Campus on Monday!

Our scholars got a chance to bring their elders into their bright and imaginative worlds, show off their brilliance and wonderful personalities for a special time. ❤️

Our grandparents were recognized and celebrated for the love, wisdom, and guidance they pour into our watoto and families. We were happy to recognize them give them their flowers 💐

Our elders are an important part of who we are, where we come from, and how we continue to pour into the next generation.

Asante Sana to all of the grandparents who spent the day with us! We loved having you in the village. ❤️🖤💚

Clean Air, Brighter Futures 🌬️🌍

We are pleased to share that BSICS has been awarded $5,000 through the American Lung Association’s Clean Air School Challenge, bringing hands-on STEM, environmental science, and health learning to our scholars at both BSA and BSICS Barbara A. Sizemore Academy !

Beginning this October, our Clean Air Student Anbassadors will be trained to learn how to monitor air quality around our schools, collect and analyze real data, and also explore how science can be used to better understand and advocate for healthier communities.

Sending a very special Asante Sana to Mama Precious whose tireless efforts to seek out meaningful opportunities for our watoto continues to strengthen our entire village ❤️🖤💚.

Those summer days where our city of Chicago experienced periods of dangerously poor air quality should be a reminder to us all that environmental events occurring hundreds of miles away can affect the air our own communities breathe.

We celebrate the life and legacy of Mama Makita today on her Kuzaliwa (Birthday)! One of BSICS’ founding instructors and pillars within Black education, we are forever grateful for her contributions to our school village that continue to guide our educational work today.

💚Green for our K-2nd graders

The 2025-2026 School Year was one to remember! ❤️🖤💚

The Illinois State Board of Education (Illinois State Board of Education) recognized both of our campuses with “ Commendable Campus Designations “ which is a reflection of the hard work, love, and commitment of watoto, educators, families, and village 🎉. Most importantly, it’s an acknowledgment of our scholars who are performing at or above state expectations !

We closed our the school year by celebrating 4 incredible milestones as our kindergarten and 8th grade scholars from each of our campuses crossed the stage to Move On and Move Forward.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026. Your village is PROUD!

Support the Shangalia Cheerleading Cheerleaders this Friday, July 17th for their annual car wash fundraiser!!!
