The unseasonably warm Chicago day has melted almost all of the snow- however one remnant mound found in the open meadow was quickly transformed into a snow person by the Playgroup kiddos!
We wonder if they lasted the sunny afternoon?

The Revolution in Education

We believe in children’s innate desire and ability to learn, and we provide them with inspiring and beautiful opportunities to do just that. At Urban Prairie Waldorf School, each subject is intertwined bringing context and deep learning as artistic creativity flows into scientific thinking and science inspires art.

Today’s schools asks parents to choose between art and academics, recess and reading, creativity and analytical thinking. Those choices are disconnected from the skills needed for the future. Tomorrow requires creativity, complex problem-solving, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and cognitive flexibility.

In order to foster those skills, Urban Prairie engages children in positive playful experiences where mistakes are embraced as a learning tool. From Early Childhood through 8th grade, students are provided with a safe space and structure for truly experiential learning. What does that look like? For our littlest students, it is as simple as allowing them the freedom to build real structures from logs and planks--this is an early experience of physics. An 8th grade lesson would be equally engaging with students taking apart engines to understand how they work, then working in small teams to rebuild them.

It’s time to rethink what is possible. It’s time for a revolution in education.
