UChicagoGRAD's 2023 Science and Engineering Industry Expo, held last month, is an intimate recruitment and career exploration event that connects employers in industry and government to UChicago PhD students and postdocs in biological sciences, chemistry, computer science, molecular engineering, physics, quantum science and engineering, and related disciplines. Employers promote their organizations and screen candidates via a variety of one-on-one and group interactions. Past events have included short company presentations, panel discussions, networking, and speed chats or interviews.

UChicagoGRAD career advisors frequently emphasize the importance of networking, and they strive to follow their own advice. At the recent Graduate Career Consortium Conference, where graduate career professionals shared ideas and best practices for supporting graduate students and postdocs, the UChicagoGRAD team bonded with colleagues from across the country during lectures, lunches, and receptions. Whether you’re looking for work, seeking inspiration, or wanting to geek out about a shared professional interest, we encourage you to make new connections!

This week UChicagoGRAD heard from a panel of alumni working in higher education administration at UChicago (“Careers in Higher Education: Perspectives from Alumni”). Thank you to Monica Barry, Kelli Chavez, and Michelle Skinner for speaking about their academic work, how it prepared them for a career path in higher education, and how they have translated their academic experiences into meaningful careers on campus.

For graduate students pursuing UChicagoGRAD's Credential in Higher Education Administration (HEA), attending the panel counts toward fulfillment of the "Building Knowledge" tasks. The HEA Credential offers UChicago graduate students the opportunity to use their skills and training to explore administrative careers and gain meaningful experience. Visit the Internships and Experiential Learning page of the UChicagoGRAD website for more information.
