Hi friends!
Did you know that in 1982 the UN’s groundbreaking work in adopting the Law of the Sea Convention?
The convention has resolved several important issues related to ocean usage and sovereignty, such as:
-Established freedom-of-navigation rights
-Set territorial sea boundaries 12 miles offshore
-Set exclusive economic zones up to 200 miles offshore
-Set rules for extending continental shelf rights up to 350 miles offshore
-Created the International Seabed Authority
-Created other conflict-resolution mechanisms (e.g., the -UN Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf)
Goal #14 Life below water 🐠
Please stay tuned for next week we have a new project coming up to help the ocean.

Hi Community!
Happy Human Rights day!
Human rights is celebrated across the world on December 10th every year which is the day when the United Nations assembly adopted.
"Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home -- so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world. [...] Unless these rights have meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere. Without concerted citizen action to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world."
-Eleanor Roosevelt
Hi Community!
In this Winter quarter we will be working in goal #14 LIFE BELOW WATER. Stay tuned for our future projects coming up soon!

Goal of the Month: Quality Education. (Goal 4)
Over 265 million children are currently out of school and 22% of them are of primary school age. Additionally, even the children who are attending schools are lacking basic skills in reading and math. In the past decade, major progress has been made towards increasing access to education at all levels and increasing enrollment rates in schools particularly for women and girls. Basic literacy skills have improved tremendously, yet bolder efforts are needed to make even greater strides for achieving universal education goals. For example, the world has achieved equality in primary education between girls and boys, but few countries have achieved that target at all levels of education.

One of the great achievements of the United Nations is the creation of a comprehensive body of human rights law—a universal and internationally protected code to which all nations can subscribe and all people aspire. The United Nations has defined a broad range of internationally accepted rights, including civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights.

Enrolment in primary education in developing countries has reached 91 per cent but 57 million primary age children remain out of school.
More than half of children that have not enrolled in school live in sub-Saharan Africa.
An estimated 50 per cent of out-of-school children of primary school age live in conflict-affected areas.
617 million youth worldwide lack basic mathematics and literacy skills.

Around 725,000 Rohingya refugees have fled to Bangladesh since the ethnic violence. Today, about 1.3 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance; an estimated 54% under 18. This means close to 400,000 children are nationless, lack consistent access to education, and live in makeshift, overcrowded camps in the Cox’s Bazaar district of Bangladesh. This goes back to GOAL #4, which is Quality Education...Making sure the youth has a quality education is important for the future
