The Electronic Visualization Laboratory (EVL) at the University of Illinois at Chicago is an interdisciplinary graduate student research laboratory specializing in the design and development of high-resolution computer graphics, visualization, virtual reality and collaboration display systems (hardware and software) connected over high-speed networks.

The SIGGRAPH Conferences 2022 Art Gallery submissions are now open! The Art Gallery program is a juried exhibition that showcases the latest innovations in digital art, and the 2022 theme - Arts and Health, the Convergence - invites compelling digital and technologically mediated artworks created over the last two years during the global pandemic. The 2022 Art Gallery is chaired by UIC Electronic Visualization Laboratory's Daria Tsoupikova, UIC Professor of Art.
Submissions may include, but are not limited to, creative projects that explore concepts of art and health, push the boundaries of our knowledge, reexamine our bodies and place in the world, advance human abilities, and design today’s and future medical, cultural, and virtual realities. Submit your art projects by 1 February at 22:00 GMT to be considered.

Donna Cox and Bob Patterson recently retired. They are long-time friends and collaborators of the UIC Electronic Visualization Laboratory — from early CAVE users to working with Maxine Brown on the GLIF international Research & Education Network map. Tom DeFanti and Dan Sandin, EVL founders and UIC professors emeriti, are prominently mentioned in this article. We wish Donna and Bob many new and exciting adventures!

Announcing SAGE3! Researchers at University of Hawaii at Manoa's LAVA lab, UIC College of Engineering's EVL, and Virginia Tech's Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology - ICAT were awarded a $5 million National Science Foundation grant to synergize two complementary technologies — large-scale data visualization and artificial intelligence — to create the Smart Amplified Group Environment (SAGE3) open-source software.
