The Donoghue campus' annual celebration of scholars' fathers, Black Dads Rock, was held for a third year this February to cap off Black History Month. For the event, nearly 90 of our scholars' fathers, grandfathers and uncles filled the library to discuss the importance of their involvement in their children’s lives and learn about the resources they can take advantage of to support their children's success.
WGN's Daytime Chicago morning news team invited Donoghue Campus Director Shamilya Woods-Pettis on the show to talk with hosts Tonya Francisco and Amy Rutledge about this signature initiative. The UChicago Consortium has released a NEW FAMILY PLAYBOOK that offers key info, data and research to help parents & caregivers make informed decisions and take action on important topics. Research shows that grades and attendance from pre-K—12th grade are the most important ingredients for students’ success in and after high school. Parents and families can understand if and how their school is helping students have high attendance and grades—and can provide their own support, too, by reading the playbook.

On March 7, we had a successful all-staff meeting on the topic of SEEDING SELF-CARE & SUCCESS FOR OURSELVES & OUR SCHOLARS. Faculty and staff took part in an array of activities targeted towards wellness like spin class, homemade pasta making, and mental health discussions.
