In overturning the balk call from the base umpire, the plate umpire was emphatic that “I never put the ball in play.” The base umpire agreed to over-turn his balk call due to the ball not being in play. You guys decide, did the plate umpire put the ball in play before the balk call? This isn’t grievance about judgment calls like safe or out, balls and strikes, fair or foul. This is about a personal choice made on the field to disregard what actually happened in order to justify overturning a clear and obvious balk call. The batter then hits a groundball up the middle to the SS that would have easily scored the run from 3B. The final score was 2-1. While it won’t change the outcome of our game, accountability and integrity in officiating does matter, so we submitted a formal grievance to the IHSA for review. New Trier played a great game and their players and coaches did a great job. Good luck to the rest of the teams in the tournament. 🐾⚾️

After falling behind 4-0 in the first, the Panthers battled back to tie the game twice, before losing in the 8th inning. Next game is the regional semifinal at New Trier, 4pm 1st pitch.

Pitching and defense kept the game close, but the Panthers are unable to push across any runs. The Panthers will play some games next week before their Regional state playoff matchup vs New Trier on 5/28. Go Panthers 🐾⚾️
