We’re proud to see so many members of the School of Music community contribute their artistry to Cabinet of Wonder, an extraordinary new project from singer-songwriter Natalie Merchant in collaboration with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chicago Children’s Theatre, streaming everywhere today!

The 17-song collection was recorded with Ryan Freeland, director of DePaul’s Sound Recording Technology program and six-time Grammy Award-winning recording engineer, serving as chief audio engineer.

Among the many artists on the project were five Chicago Symphony Orchestra musicians who are members of our faculty: Rob Kassinger, bass, Miles Maner, bassoon, Charles Vernon, trombone, Oto Carrillo, horn, and Emma Gerstein, flute, along with DePaul alumnus Richard Brasseale (BM ’17, MM ’19), saxophone, and SOM faculty member Julia Coronelli, harp.

Three years in the making, Cabinet of Wonder brings together music, storytelling and visual art while creating a free educational resource for children, families and teachers.

We’re delighted to celebrate our faculty and alumni who helped bring this remarkable project to life.
